Hard tonneau tri fold truck bed cover by XTWEEX
Our new to us GMC Sierra had an older aluminum cover that worked ok, but it had some damage and was missing latches. Like we always do, we hit Amazon and did some shopping!
What is FRP?
"High strength fiberglass reinforced polymer honeycomb panel to provide maximum protection; Waterproof and Anti-moisture, strong resistance to chemicals, corrosion resistant with Maximum bearing weight 350 pounds." (from the XTWEEX website)
Why I like having a cover
It seems like every weekend I need to haul boxes or other junk off to recycle and they usually have papers and packing materials in them. Having a cover allows me to just throw them in the back, close the tailgate and hit the road. I don't have to worry about stuff flying out as I drive. I also keep a box of stuff back there for gas station stops: Paper towels, Marvel Mystery Oil and some other items. They never get wet, even going through the car wash. Plus, the cover makes a nice extra workbench with the tailgate down!
For me, the tri-fold option just makes the most sense when comparing to other designs:
Soft style roll-up covers - Easy to tear, easy to cut and not secure. Material has a much shorter lifespan.
Hard shell camper type cover - Too bulky, expensive and generally too heavy.
One piece fiberglass covers - Limits hauling ability, very cumbersome for one person to remove (if needed) and expensive. These are paint to match covers just like the camper shell types.
